A meme is something that has evolved with the invention of the Internet. Memes have become so integrated into our daily lives that there is "meme culture".
From my understanding, a meme is mockery based on a topic. Whether it be fashion, relationships, struggles, memes have covered them all. From my view, memes that become the most popular are those that many people can relate with, or can understand easily.
Memes can also be a conterversial topic. Because memes are imitations, certain topics are targeted towards a specific audience. Memes topics can come off as offensive for certain groups, which can lead to online wars. On the other hand, memes have become a way for people to bond online. "Meme tagging buddies" have become a "sign" that those people are close, close enough to share the same sense of humor and tag each other on public social media platforms.
