Surveillance capitalism is the act of companies taking your personal private information that you input into the Internet into profit by selling yout information. While companies like Google used to utilize user data for the purpose of benefitting the users and improving products, they have slowly transitioned into the surveillance capitalism model.
Anything from names, birthdays, what website you click on, what products you buy on a certain app, are all tracked and sold to to benefit the seller and the buyer who can target personalized ads for the user.
If this surveillance capitalism goes on, I think the Internet will really become a place where anyone can access anyone's data, "with one click". There will no longer be any "privacy" on the Internet, even if companies say so. Everyone's information may end up being accessible to other users, not just the companies that use private data for profit.
