HOW CAN DESIGN HELP PEOPLE "GET FREE"?

“Art is to be free and design is to fix” -Kanye West

Art gives the creator the power to freely express themselves through their choice of medium.
But what about design?

Design makes rules, boundaries, and limitations.
It can limit accessibility and be exclusive.
If a building is designed a certain way that there are only stairs to promote healthy lifestyles,
then people who are unable to use stairs or people with respiratory problems would be excluded from that building.
Same goes for online platforms, if a website is designed with red and green to show sales or regular price,
then people who are colorblind and cannot differentiate between those two colors would have a difficult time navigating through it.

From a different point of view, design is what makes our lives so much easier.
In a way, I believe that means that design gets people “free”.
These days, there are smart speakers so you can switch on and off lights without having to get up yourself.
There are features where you can lock the door from anywhere you are if you realize you left the house without doing so.
If these gadgets didn’t exist, sure, we can definitely be able to function without it.
But because they exist, it gives people that little extra time to “me time”, engage in hobbies, and be free.

*just a blurb.
Design can be limiting, but what about the designER?
I guess I’m not exactly sure how I feel about this yet,
but wouldn’t the designer “be free” even if their design comes out to “fix”?
Like while they are designing, they have the freedom to design it however they like?
(probably not but just a thought I had briefly)
